Why touch is a matter of physics, not feeling
We move through the world under the assumption that we are solid entities interacting with other solid entities. When you press your hand against a table or feel the warmth of another person, the sensation is immediate and undeniable. It feels like a meeting of surfaces. Yet, classical physics tells a different story. At the atomic level, there is no such thing as contact. What we interpret as touch is actually the electromagnetic repulsion between atoms. The electrons in your hand and the electrons in the object you are touching push against each other, creating a gap that can never be closed.
